The 3rd International Exhibition of Graphic Arts
The catalogue of the 3rd International Exhibition of Graphic Arts, which was on view at the Museum of Modern Art and included works by 297 artists from 28 countries and a special group of the Paris school. The works were evaluated by a nine-member international jury. The exhibition was organised under the patronage of the President of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito.
One of the new features introduced by the organisers of the 3rd International Exhibition of Graphic Arts in 1959, which became a regular part of the subsequent editions, was personal retrospectives of the first three award-winners of the previous edition. Thus, the visitors of the third edition could see the exhibitions of Henri-Georges Adam, Zoran Mušič and Jurgen von Konow and read the accompanying texts in the catalogue.
The catalogue of the 3rd International Exhibition of Graphic Arts was the first to include colour reproductions. The organisers also decided that the catalogue covers would thenceforth present a print by the recipient of the Grand Prize at the previous edition. This rule remained in force all through to the 24th edition. On the cover is a reproduction of November, a 1952 copper engraving by Henri-Georges Adam.
