Grand Prix, exhibition leaflet, 2003 (design by id studio).
MGLC Archive.
The exhibition was a historical and documentary introduction to the 25th International Biennial of Graphic Arts and at the same time a tribute to the fifty years of activity of the Biennial. The prizes as an art institution speak of two things: the creative persuasiveness of the artists who received them and the politics of those who select and award the prizes. This is shown by the exhibition Grand Prix, which was conceived as a comprehensive presentation of those graphic works by Slovene artists that won awards at the Ljubljana Biennial and other graphic arts exhibitions around the world. Its aim was to show the art on the territory of Slovenia after the Second World War that linked the wishes of the Ljubljana Biennial with relevant world art events, consolidated after the Second World War by the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel.
The exhibited works came from the collections of the authors or their families, as well as from the public collections of Božidar Jakac Gallery, Museum of Goriška, International Centre of Graphic Arts, Moderna galerija and Regional Museum Ptuj.
