The 15th International Biennial of Graphic Arts
The catalogue of the 15th International Biennial of Graphic Arts, which was on view at the Museum of Modern Art, the Rihard Jakopič Fine Art Gallery (today’s Jakopič Gallery), Cankarjev dom and the City Art Gallery Ljubljana and included works by 541 artists from 55 countries. The works were evaluated by a seven-member international jury.
The main biennial exhibition, the personal retrospectives of the award-winners and the accompanying exhibitions were designed by Zoran Kržišnik, Jure Mikuž and Živa Škodlar-Vujić. The personal retrospectives of the first three award-winners of the previous edition (Zoran Mušič, Alan Green, Shoichi Ida) and a retrospective exhibition of the fourteen theretofore recipients of the Grand Prize (Armin Landeck, Henri-Georges Adam, Pierre Soulages, Yozo Hamaguchi, Robert Rauschenberg, Victor Vasarely, Antoni Tàpies, Janez Bernik, Kosuke Kimura, Miroslav Šutej, Akira Matsumoto, Tetsuya Noda, Adriena Šimotová, Jiří Anderle) were mounted and the accompanying texts published in the catalogue.
Upon its 15th edition in 1983, the Biennial of Graphic Arts celebrated its 30th anniversary. To mark this occasion, the organisers prepared a special exhibition of prints by Yugoslav artists that had received an award, also a purchase one, at one of the previous editions. They wanted to extend the field of Biennial’s activity, which is why they mounted Multiples in Time; Multiples – Small Bronze, an exhibition initiated by Getulio Alviani. They also mounted a retrospective exhibition of Henry Moore’s printmaking oeuvre.
The catalogue is lavishly illustrated in black and white and includes a few colour reproductions of the exhibited works. Jože Brumen designed the print matter and typographically edited the catalogue. The biennial’s poster and visual identity were designed by Grupa 6.
