André Pitol’s research residency
Dr André Pitol, a Brazilian art historian, is completing a month-long research residency at the International Centre of Graphic Arts. Pitol, who is actually an expert on contemporary art in the former Yugoslavia, was invited by MGLC to research the history of the Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts as part of the From Biennale to Biennale project. During his stay, he studied the Biennale archives, learnt about the state of research in this field and wrote an article, which will be published in a comprehensive international collection of contributions to mark the 70th anniversary of the Biennale in 2025. In his text, Pitol will present the fascinating life and art journey of Brazilian artist Edival Ramosa and interweave it with the story of his participation in the 9th Biennale of Graphic Arts in 1971. As part of his residency, Pitol also gave a public lecture on selected exhibitions of modern and contemporary Brazilian art.
