Maria Bonomi, Balad of Terror, 1970, woodcut; recipient of the International Jury Prize, 15th International Biennial of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, 1983.

The exhibition included fifteen prints made between 1965 and 1985. Maria Bonomi is one of the most important names of Brazilian contemporary art and culture. Her graphic language is marked by the vocabulary of woodblock printing. She extended this language to other modes of printing and creating images. In her works, everything is grandiose and imposing. She needs direct contact with raw material that she gesturally transforms by engraving, chiselling and carving in order to create sensual and deep rhythms. In addition to woodblock, she also employs lithography and screenprinting. All these techniques allow for her gestural approach, which has grown with her and her way of work.
