Lourdes Castro, Applied Shadow, Dark Grey on a Pillow, 1969, screenprint on fabric; recipient of the International Jury Prize, 8th International Exhibition of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, 1969.

The exhibition included seventeen screenprints made between 1962 and 1970. In her work, Portuguese painter Lourdes Castro drew on fauvism and lyrical abstraction only to find her own specific expression at the beginning of the 1960s. She quickly started using the procedure of projecting shadows and created portraits of her friends and acquaintances, first in paintings and screenprints on various materials and then in objects by using the photic characteristics of a single layer or several layers of plexiglass. The exhibition presented her screenprints printed on various materials – from paper, textile and plexiglass to other transparent plastic materials.
