19. 6.–30. 9. 1999

Cankarjev dom Gallery

Kohei Wakatsuki, Daybrake of Forest, 1996, etching and aquatint; recipient of the Grand Prix, 22nd International Biennial of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, 1997.

The exhibition included twenty prints made between 1995 and 1999. Kohei Wakatsuki is a researcher of oriental cosmology and ontology, exceptionally inventive in his treatment of copper plates on which he creates images of the moments in life when we face the universe. His work is characterised by the motifs of intertwined roots and other details of trees and the flight of birds in an infinite sky. His work procedures have a complicated temporal sequence; there is a lot of overprinting and collaging of various layers of paper, which leads to a complicated multi-layered composition of the final image.
