Rihard Jakopič Exhibition Venue

Harumi Sonoyama, D’Encres K, 1984, colour lithograph; recipient of the International Jury Prize, 16th International Biennial of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, 1985.

The exhibition included fifteen lithographs from the D’Encres series made between 1982 and 1986. Harumi Sonoyama is a master of Japanese modern printmaking, which became established “with the help of the creative print movement” (sōsaku-hanga undo). This movement argued that all the stages of the printmaking process should be the work of one person. His colour lithographs come across as photographs, which proves that the artist has a technical mastery of details. The predominant motifs in his lithographs are everyday objects, such as metal containers half-covered in paint, ropes and small objects from his studio.
