Moderna galerija, Ljubljana

Eduardo Paolozzi, Blue Copy for the New Museum, 1981, lithograph and screenprint; recipient of the Grand Prix d’Honneur, 15th International Biennial of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, 1983.

The exhibition included twenty prints made between 1969 and 1982. Sir Eduardo Paolozzi was a Scottish artist, primarily a sculptor, although one can see a synthesis of sculpture, graphic art and drawing in his work. He started making prints only after he had already established himself as a sculptor. First, he took to screenprinting, which allows one to change and transform the pictorial surface during the printing process itself, but later also expressed himself in etchings. He was a tireless experimenter; his method of work was collaging. He often handcoloured the prints even with non-graphic colours and added collages to the printed surface. The world of his motifs is primarily mechanical, consisting of cars, planes, blueprints, integrated circuits and the like.
