This year’s winners of The 2019 Turner Prize include the artists Oscar Murillo and Lawrence Abu Hamdan, who participated in the 31st Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts (Over you/you, 2015, curated by Nicola Lees) and the 33rd Ljubljana Biennial (2019, curated by Slavs and Tatars). In addition to Murillo and Hamdan, artists Helen Cammock and Tai Shani also received the award. During a time of global political crisis, the artists decided to take up a stance of solidarity and set up a collective, with the prize being shared among them. This is how their decision was stated: “At a time of political division in Britain and conflict in much of the world, the artists wanted to use the occasion of the Turner Prize to make a strong statement of community and solidarity and have formed themselves into a collective.”
